1/2=2/4, 2+7=9 

1/2+7/4=9/4 or 2 1/4.

To add fractions, just add the numerators. If the denominators aren't the same, find the least common multiple of the denominators.

make one-half into 2/4, then add which would be 8/4, then simplify down to 2

You change the half  into 2\4. Then you add it up
