How do you simplify: (x to the negative 1 power, plus y to the negative 1 power), divided by (x to the negative 1, power times y)

in other symbols (X^-1 + Y^-1)/ (X^-1)(Y)

Simplify the following:
(Y (1/X+1/Y))/(1/X)

Multiply the numerator of (1/X+1/Y)/(1/X) by the reciprocal of the denominator. (1/X+1/Y)/(1/X) = (1/X+1/Y) X:
X (1/X+1/Y) Y

Put each term in 1/X+1/Y over the common denominator X Y: 1/X+1/Y = Y/(X Y)+X/(X Y):
Y/(X Y)+X/(X Y) X Y

Y/(X Y)+X/(X Y) = (Y+X)/(X Y):
(Y+X)/(X Y) X Y

((X+Y) X Y)/(X Y) = (X Y)/(X Y)×(X+Y) = X+Y:
Answer: |X+Y
