How many ways are there to put 5 b***s in 2 boxes if the b***s are distinguishable and the boxes are distinguishable?

OK....I'll take a leap at this one....again!!!

Possible

Splits

  ↓

5 - 0            put the 5 b***s in 1 box or the other  = 2 ways

4 - 1           select 4 of 5 b***s  and 1 of 2 boxes  = C(5,4) x 2  = 10 ways

3 - 2           select 3 of 5 b***s  and 1 of two boxes  = C(5,3) x  2   = 20 ways

 

2 + 10 + 20  = 32 ways
