Lets look at an ordinary number so 362
There is an invisable point at the end of any whole number so this is 362.
Each of these digits has a different place value
the 2 is 2*1 = 2
the 6 is 6*10=60
the 3 is 3*100=300
When you go right of the decimal point the place values are also different. Say I add 794 onto the end to get
362.794
the 7 is worth $$7*\frac{1}{10}$$
the 9 is worth $$9*\frac{1}{100}$$
and the 4 is worth $$4*\frac{1}{1000}$$
