How do i find the mass of a 3,0 m long copperthread with a diameter of 1,8 mm?
How do i find the mass of a 3,0 m long copperthread with a diameter of 1,8 mm?
I think we proceed by finding the Volume of the copperthread, which is like a cylinder.
V=Pi X A^2 X H, A=Radius, H=Height or Length. So, we have:
V=3.14159265358 X (1.8/2)^2 X 3000
V=3.14159265358 X .81 X 3000=7,634.07 Cubic mm.
Now, Density=Mass/Volume. Copper's Density is=8.93 grams/cubic cm. But 1 cm=10mm and a cubic cm=10^3=1000mm^3. So, the Density of copper in grams per cubic mm=8.93/1000=.00893g/mm^3.
So now we go to the Density formula: Density=Mass/Volume=.00893=Mass/7,634.07, so that
Mass=7,634.07 X.00893=68.17, Which is the Mass of copperthread in GRAMS!.
Hope that's right. In the meantime, you can check my numbers on your calculator.
