this is a multiple step problem (  2 problems).

A European car manufacturer reports that the fuel efficiency of the new MicroCar is 28.5 km/l highway and 22.0 km/l city. What are the equivalent fuel efficency rates in miles per gal?

after you solve

next question.

If gas costs $3.50 per gal, how much would it cost to drive 500 miles in the city in this car ( assuming the fuel efficiency rating is accurate)?

1 km  ≈ .621 miles

1 L  ≈ .264 gal

So......

28.5 km  = 28.5 *.621  ≈ 17.7 miles / .264 gal  ≈ 67.04 mpg

22 km  =  22 * .621  ≈ 13.66 miles / .264 gal  ≈  51.74 mpg

Cost for city driving  =  500 / 51.74  *  3.50  ≈  $33.82

cool cool cool
