Let the orignal amount=A, then we have:

25%A=$18,000 divide both sides by 25%

A=$18,000 / .25

A=$72,000. The original amount.

The person above did not add enough zeroes, just to let you know.

Anyway, I'll take a crack at this question.

You know that 100% / 25% = 4, yes? Therefore, $18,000,000 is 1/4 of the original value.

Let 100% equal the original value.

$18,000,000 = 1/4(100%), which can be turned into $18,000,000 = 100% / 4.

In order to undo division, you must multiply both sides by the denominator; in this case the denominator is 4.

4($18,000,000) = 100%.

$18,000,000 x 4 = $72,000,000

$72,000,000 would be the original value in this case.
