5x+2y=7

y=3x - 2

please show work so I can solve the rest of my questions(use words too)

X=10 - 2y

x+3y=14

X=2y+1

3y + 2x=16

For all of these you want to figure out the values of x and y. For the first set (pair) you're told what y equals. Plug y into top equation so you get 5x+2(3x-2)=7. Distribute the 2 so you get => 5x+6x-4=7. Simplify you get 11x-4=7. To get just your x value on one side add the whole thing by 4. Now you get 11x=7+4. Simplify to get 11x=11. now to get what x is just divide the whole thing by 11. x=1 now that you know what x is plug it into your bottom equation. y=3(1)-2=1 so x=1 and y=1.

This is the main idea for solving the other two. plug on equation into the other in order to have only x or y variables (first step). Then solve for that variable (2nd step). Now plug the variable into the remaining equation (step 3).  Now you know what x and y are.
