Sam buys 20 boxes of oranges there are 25 oranges in a box each box of oranges costs 7$ sam sells 2/5 of the oranges bought, he sells each of these oranges for 40 cents, he then sells each of the remaining oranges in 3 for 50 cents, did sam make a profit or did sam make a loss?

He spent  20 * 7  =  $140

Number of oranges he bought :  20 * 25  = 500

2/5 of the oranges  =  200    at .40 each, he makes  200 * .40  =  $80 from the sales of these

 

So....he has    500 - 200  = 300 left

So he has 100  groups of 3

So...he makes  100 * .50  =  $50  from the sales of these

 

So

 

Sales - Expenses  = Profit

 

[ 80 + 50 ]  - [ 140 ]  =

 

[ 130]  - [ 140]  =

 

- $10

 

So...he loses 10 dollars
