how do you find out what the range is?

The range, in most algebraic questions is all possible values of "y"

For instance:

y = x

If you graph this, it is a straight, diagonal line that goes up infinitely high, as well as down infinitely low. It does not skip any spots, so it has locations at every value of y possible (Does the line exist where y = 2? Yes.  What about where y = 10.4? Yes!)

So that answer would be: Range = All Real Numbers

Parabolas, absolute value equations, and many more will give you different answers. Try checking the graph!

If you are talking about Statistics such as this list: Range [11, 23, 45, 67, 23, 78, 17]

=The largest number - The smallest number.

=           78                 -               11

=67 is the "Range" in this list.
