If the problem is x = 5/(3x) - 2:
Multiply each term by the denominator, 3x, to get: 3x² = 5 - 6x
Get all the values to one side: 3x² + 6x - 5 = 0
Factoring won't work, so use the quadratic formula with a = 3, b = 6 and c = -5.
If the problem is: x = 5/(3x - 2):
Multiply each side by 3x -2 to get: x(3x - 2) = 5
Multiply out: 3x² - 2x = 5
Get all the values to one side: 3x² - 2x - 5 = 0
Factoring: (3x - 5)(x + 1) = 0
So, either 3x - 5 = 0 or x + 1 = 0
3x = 5 x = -1
x = 5/3
