Hello ballhopper!

{ y^2 + x^2 = 17             y=4x^2

a. (2,8) (-2,8)

b. (1,4) (-1,4)

c. (1, -4) (-1,4)

d. (2,8)

e. no solution

y^2 + x^2 = 17             y=4x^2

16x4 + x² = 17

u = x²

16u² + u - 17 = 0

\(x = {-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac} \over 2a}\)

a = 16   b = 1   c = -17

\(u = {-1 \pm \sqrt{1^2+4*16*17} \over 32}\)

\(u= \frac{-1 \pm 33}{32} \)

u = 1

x² = u = 1

x1 = 1     y1 = 4

x2 = -1   y2 = 4

Greeting asinus :- ) laugh !
