IF distance was 300*10^5 and time was 3.5 * 10^8, what would speed be with steps?

thanks!

I know speed = d/t but aren't there some other 'fancy' steps when there are powers??

s = d/t

s = 300*10^5 / 3.5*10^8

Now, we can simply cancel out 10^5 and convert 10^8 to 10^3 since 8-5 = 3. Note that 10^3 is in the denominator meaning we move the decimal place 3 times to the left.

Also, we can just normally divide 300 by 3.5 (same as 7/2): 300 * 2 / 7 = 600/7. Since 600/7 is in the numerator, we can take its decimal and move the decimal place 3 times to the left.

So, we end up with 600/7 * 10^-3 unit/unit [m/s for example] = ~0.0857 unit/unit.
