how do i solve this problem using substitution? y=x+1, -2x-y=7
The FIRST equation says y = (x+1) substitute this value into equation 2
-2x - y = 7
-2x - (x+1) = 7
-2x -x -1 = 7
-3x = 8
x =- 8/3
Then since y= x+1
= -8/3 + 1
= -5/3 = y
