You can solve this as an equation in one variable.

1-) The question say that Kelly had 3/5 as many jellybaens as Lynn.(Suppose that Lynn had y Jellybeans ) , so kelly had

3/5y jellybeans.

2-) After Lynn gave Kelly 3/5 of her jellybeans, now Kelly had ( 3/5y+3/5y ) .

3-)  Kelly had 160 more than Lynn .  so the equation now become  3/5y+3/5y = 160 + y

solve this equation to find the value of y which represent how many jellybeans lynn had.

3/5y+3/5y = 160 + y

6/5 y = 160 + y

1/5 y = 160

y = 800

so Lynn had 800 jellybeans .

and we know that Kelly had 3/5 as many as Lynn , so

Number of Kelly's jellybeans = 3/5*800 = 480 jellybeans .

Lynn had 800 jellybeans

Killy had 480 jellybeans

The total jellybeans is 800+480 = 1280 .
