what is the solution of the system defined by y=-x+5 and 5x+2y=14

y=-x+5 and 5x+2y=14   substituting for y in the seconf equation, we have

5x + 2(-x + 5) = 14       simplify

5x - 2x + 10 = 14

3x + 10 = 14                 subtract 10 from both sides

3x = 4                           divide both sides by 3

x = 4/3

And y = -(4/3) + 5 = 11/3

So...the solution is  (4/3, 11/3)
