Why do scientific calculators answer: 6^2/2(3)+4=58 when order of ops (pemdas) indicates the answer is 10
62/2(3) + 4
The order of operations says to do the exponent first:
36/2(3) + 4
The order of operations says to do the multiplications and division from left to right; since the division occurs to the left of the multiplication, the division by 2 is next:
18(3) + 4
The order of operations says to do the multiplication before the addition:
54 + 4
which is 58.
Don't do the multiplication before the division! Multiplication and division are tied in importance; do the one to the left first!
