why is -3^2=-9 while (-3)^2=9

All that nonsense is about the "order of operations" So, when you have someting inside the bracket, you have to perform that operation first. So, (-3) x (-3) =+9. while -3^2 =3 x 3 =9 (exponents first), then - sign. Hence: - 9 !!.
1) -(3^2)=-9
2) (-3)^2 = 9
