To make things easy....let's let  the total number of students at the school   =  100

 

Then  

 

.30 * 100  =    30  are boys

 

So

 

.70 * 100  =  70  are girls

 

So  

 

.60 * 30  = 18 boys arrive by car

 

And

 

.80 * 70  =  56 girls arrive by car

 

 

So....probability that someone chosen arrives by car  =  [ 18 + 56]  / 100  =  74/100  =  .74
