We have w=width and l=length

so

l = 5/4 * w

2l + 2w = 180

solving for these two equations, we get l = 50 and w = 40

to find the area, you need to multiply l*w

so our answer is

The length of a rectangle is 1 1/4 times its width. Given that the perimeter of the rectangle is 180 cm, find the area of the rectangle

Call the width of the rectangle w

Call the length of the rectangle 1.25w

In these terms, the perimeter of the rectangle is     2w + 2(1.25w)  = 180

                                                                                      2w + 2.5w  = 180

                                                                                              4.5w  =  180

                                                                                                   w  =  180/4.5  =  40

We've found that the width is 40.   The length is (1.25)(40)  =  50

The area is the width times the length.                     A  = (40)(50)  =  2000 cm2

Since we were talking about centimeters, the answer is in square centimeters.
