The monitor is just like the display for a desktop computer. It is like a TV except smaller and meant for desktop computers. A laptop has the monitor connected to it, a desktop computer needs a monitor since it only has the CPU unless you have those all-in-one PCs that have everything in the monitor!

You said the defects happened after April 8 (the day Windows XP's support ended)...could be something to do with that, however everything should have still ran fine after that day!!!
Now, it could be a mix of that and something else. (You should still scan using Malwarebytes as Phill stated before in your other computer post...visit: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and you should see the "Free Version Download" link in orange [once you download and install it, update databases, and do a threat scan!]
If anything is found from the threat scan, you can go ahead and quarantine them [just make sure to check them all for false positives...however, MalwareBytes is very safe!!]. It'll ask for you to restart your computer to finish removing the threats maybe, so do that as well. Then Run CCleaner!
As for CCleaner, most of the options should be checked but you can un-check network passwords [that way you won't have to keep on entering your wifi password]...just click analyze to see what is found and then run the cleaner..."Analyze" is on the bottom left and "Run Cleaner" is on the bottom right..
THE CCLEANER OPTION IS ON THE TOP LEFT AND UNDER IT, IS THE REGISTRY CLEANER.
Then, you can use the registry cleaner, too!!! I have never had any problems with it and it is extremely safe!! When you "Scan for Issues" [on bottom left] you will see a list of errors in your registry. Then, once that's done, you can select "Fix Selected Issues"...Important: It'll ask if you want to back-up your registry, select yes and save the file somewhere on your hard drive!!! Then, it will ask to delete specific obselete/other type of keys...you can delete those and that's it!
LASTLY, TRY TO RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME: THIS PROCESS IS KNOWN AS SYSTEM RESTORE:
To do this, type 'system restore' in the start menu search and you it'll display a list of system restore points your computer made. Choose the most recent one and then apply it by selecting the date and it'll have some memo written such as 'Scheduled Checkpoint' or 'Installed some product' [it'll take a while as your system will restart automatically and apply the changes].
