then you find what you multiplied to make it that denominator
5/5 x 2/3 3/3 x 3/5
10/15 -9/15
10/15 = 2/3 and 9/15 = 3/5
10/15 - 9/15 = 1/15

the answer would be x= .5 or 1/2 because in the equation
3x-y =2
y=x-1
the next step would be to substitute the y for x-1.
so it would be 3x - (x-1) = 2
then the distributive property.
3x-x +1 = 2
2x+1=2
-1 -1
2x=1
