Using x,y and 0,0
d^2 = (x-0)^2 + (y-0)^2
Using x,y and -2,1
d^2 = (x- -2)^2 + (y-1)^2
Equate these two d^2 s
x^2 + y^2 = x^2 +4x +4 + y^2 -2y +1
0 = 4x -2y + 5
Now find the distance from x,y to -3,2
d^2 = (x- -3)^2 + (y-2)^2
= x^2 + 6x +9 + y^2 -4y + 4 Equate this to the first (or second if you wish) d^2 equation
x^2 + y^2 = x^2 + 6x + 9 + y^2 -4y + 4
0 = 6x -4y + 13
Now solve the system of the two highligted equations
4x-2y+5 =0
6x-4y+13 = 0 Multiply the first equation by -2
-8x +4y-10 = 0 Now add the two equations
-2x + 3 = 0
x = 3/2
