The sum of the squares of the roots is defined as b^2-2c when a quadrativ is written in ax^2+bx+c. So, the sum of the roots of the polynomial above is 4^2-2 * 12= -8.
Hope it helps!
If a quadratic equation has 1 root, that means that it has a double root and is a perfect square trinomial. This means that the second term is twice a perfect square and the third term is a perfect square. For these conditions to be fufilled, m= 1/9.

Let X be the amount of money Ben receives, so Ava has X-20, Ben has X, and Carlos has X/3. So 7/3x-20= $120. Solving for X, we get $60. If Ben recieved $60, then Carlos recieved $60/3= $20.
1. x^2+2x+1= (x+1)^2
2. x^2+4x+4= (x+2)^2
3. X^2-6x+9= (x-3)^2
