Actually if you answer questions that have not been answered or other peoples answers are wrong and you correct  them you will be awarded a specific amount of points depending on how well the answer was explained or how well you did the math & so on, but mainly you gain points from answering the questions that people ask, and also asking questions yourself, although you do occasionally get points from asking questions you do not get as many as you do when you answer someone elses questions, therefore you mainly earn points for answering questions.
