Let's divide 58.50 by .25 to find out how many hours both worked in total...so we have

234 hrs

And Keisha worked 2/3 of them and Tanya worked 1/3 of them

So 2/3 of 234  = 156   and 1/3 of 234 = 78

We have, using the Pythagorean Theorem...   √(14^2 + 1^2) = √197 = about 14.04 ft.

Hint, jillybean.....add 91 and 97 and then divide by 2......do the same for 97 and 103..!!!

Jillybean......I think they want the number between 91 and 97 ... and the one between 97 and 103....can you figure it out???

If we divide the second equation by 2 all the way through, we get x + y = 3, the same equation as the first......and this system has infinite solutions for x and y.....

Call the number of people who ride the bus, x.

And the number that ride the train is 3x - 2.

And together, they sum to 54.  So we have...

x + (3x - 2) = 54    simplify

4x - 2 = 54   add 2 to both sides

4x = 56         divide by 4

x = 14    this is the number that ride the bus
