A vertical stretch of 3 multiplies the y coordinate of (3,7) by, well, 3 !!!

So, just stetching in the y direction would give us (3, 21)

Stretching in both diections by 3 would give us (9, 21)

 y= -.04x^2+1.2x.....I assume you want to find the roots of this polynomial

First....set it to 0

  -.04x^2+1.2x  = 0      multiply through by 100 to clear the decimals

-4x^2 + 120x = 0   factor

-4x( x - 30) = 0       set each factor to  0

-4x = 0    divide by-4 on both sides and x = 0

x - 30 = 0    add 30 to both sides and  x = 30

This looks like you want to know the ending amount for an investment of $3500 compounded semi-annually for 15 years at 8% per annum.....if so we have...

3,500(1+.08/2)^2^15 =

3500(1.04) ^30  =

about $ 11,351.89  

Be careful here!!!!

We can "cancel" multiplication/division .....i.e.,    √[a^2 * b^2]  = a * b   or  √[a^2/b^2] =  a/b   {assuming a and b are positive}

But .... we can't "cancel" addition/subtraction....

In general ....  √[a^2 ± b^2]  ≠  a^2 ± b^2

This is a common mistake....!!!!
