Setting the euations equal to each other and using the Quadratic formula to solve results in
x = 4/6 and -1 and substituting these valuse of x results in y = -.1111 and 1 respectively
a,b c, d = -1,1 and 4/6, -.11111
Then c- a = 4/6 - (-1) = 10/6
..as an 'aside' if the angle is 6.2 degrees north of west, the answer comes out to a = 2.87 m/s^2
Maybe there is a typo in the angle of the 8N force ??
1/2 x 10000m^2 / 25 m^2/tree = 200 trees
the forces acting laterally are
+9 N to the east
and -8cos62 = -3.755 N
Net force is +5.244 east f= ma 5.244 = 3 kg a a = 1.75 m/s^2 east
Either the book has the wrong answer or the wrong info in the question!
Good job !
From the diagram, x= tower height
tan 30 = x / d
tan 60 = (x+5)/d re arrange d= (x+5)/tan60 = .57735x + 2.8868 Substtitute this into the first equation
tan30 = .57735 = x/(.57735x+2.8868) solve for x
.33333x +1.6666= x
x= 2.5 m 'tower' height (short !)
(1/sin - cos/sin)(1/cos +1)
(1-cos)/sin (1/cos +1)
(1-cos)/cos sin + (1-cos)/sin
(1-cos)/cos sin + (1-cos)(cos)/cos sin
{(1-cos) + (cos- cos^2) ] / cos sin
(1-cos^2)/(cos sin)
sin^2 /(cos sin
sin/cos
tan(x)
asin(sin(x) = x
tan(atany) = y
cos(acosz) = z Does that help?

Wellllllll........just put '3' where 'x' is ......!
-2e^3 = -40.1710738463753355
re-arrange -6x^2 + 36x =-216 Divide by -6 (we'll multiply by -6 shortly to even things out)
x^2 -6x = 36 'complete the square'
x^2 - 6x + 9 = 36+9
(x-3)^2 -45 now multiply by -6
-6(x-3)^2 + 270 a = -6 b = -3 c = 270
a+b+c = 261
55!/(51! x 4!) = (55 x 54 x 53 x 52 x 51!) / (51! x 4!) = (55x54x53x52)/4! = 341055
(as guest found...just thought I would show a little more of the reason/method)
