There isn't enough information here to find an answer (perhaps there was a diagram to go with it in your math test?).

If an angle is bisected it is cut in two (so, in your case, you would get two angles of 17.5°).

You also need to specify X and Y

A workaround (temporary I hope!) is as follows:

1.  Outside of the forum go to :  http://tinypic.com/?t=postupload

2.  Ignore the stuff that says "1 message waiting for you" (it's just advertising) and upload your image.

3. Copy the URL that appears in the last (bottom) box.  

4. Return to the forum and choose the Image icon.

5. Paste the URL into the URL box on the "Image info" tab and click on OK.

You can type x = 1/8 directly into the calculator on the home page and it will calculate the value.  However, it doesn't store x, so you can't use it directly in subsequent calculations.

The work done on the spring to get it from 5" to 2" is k*3^2/2

The work done on the spring to get it from 5" to 4" is k*1^2/2

Hence the work done on the spring to get from 2" to 4" is k*(1^2 - 3^2)/2 or -k*(3^2 - 1^2)/2  (it's the work done by the spring that's positive here of course, so the work done on the spring is negative).
