This answer is prob. not even math anymore, so im not sure if this is correct, but 

anyways:

sqrt(100) = 10

10 * 2 = 20

8 - 1 = 7

20 1 7

used numbers:

100, 2, 8, 1, 1

This is supposed to be a math puzzle right? I hope so, otherwise just forget this answer.

Since every side has the same length, u got in every of the 3. corners the same angle of 60.

Now if u split the equilateral triangle in the middle, u will get 2 halfs with each half having one angle of 90, one with 60(stays the same as unsplitted) and one with 30.

(sorry for that awful pic lol, but I just went for the first online draw thing on the internet)

So the middle line that splits the triangle is the heigh u want to calculate. Since u got a 90 angle by splitting it into 2 parts u can use the pythagoras to get the middle line.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 

b is what u want to have, so rearrange it to:

b^2 = c^2 - a^2

Length of c is the same as unsplitted of 20, a is the half since u splitted the down side into 2 halfs. so its 10

b^2 = 20^2 - 10^2

b^2 = 300.   II ^(1/2) I cant use latex, so thats just taking the square root 2.

b = 17.3205080756887729

Also you can try to draw the graph to get the heigh, but it aint that accurate most times.

Well just isolate the variable to one side.

(3/8)x + 1 = (9/4)  II -1

3/8x = 9/4 - 1.      II /3/8

x =  (5/4) / (3/8)

x = 10/3

Ok I think i just made too many thoughts about the question. The math way seems logical, but just thinking about the question itself kinda confused me.

So heres my try on the puzzle. (A bit late ik)

Well I dont have a really good answer.

I first tried to get an answer without decimals( didnt really worked out) the farthest i went with that was 99

without having decimal numbers:

4! * 4 + 3 = 99

But jea i then tried to get 100 by using exponential numbers and then using the gauss bracket to get 100.

Im not sure if this kinda cheating but i got 2 results: (and im not sure if this is the right way to use the brackets)

Gauss bracket [ 3^ 4.sqrt(4) ] = [3^4.2] = [100.9...] = 100

Gauss bracket [ 4! * 4.sqrt(3) ] = [24 * 4.1732... ] = [100.15692...] = 100

I think I might understood it. Well its still a bit cloudy, but when understanding something new its always cloudy at first and gets better the more I invest into the topic. this is just putting a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Just the sentence of pythagoras saying that a squared + b squared equals the area of c squared.

Jea, but why is the reduction in time 50% greater in the 2nd flight?

I appreciate ur try to explain me the math, but im stuck at the logic part :D 

I just dont get the difference in the wind. I mean it has a different % of influence on the second flight then it has on the first,

even thought it doesnt changes its strength. Just -/+

First flight was 1/6 = 16.6% faster then normal. 12/72. And the second flight was 25% slower then average. 18/72.

But nevermind, I will just let that hole stay in my head.
