'Adventure'  is 40% of an entire circle

    and entire circle is 360^o

       what is 40% 0f 360^o ?  

When the ball hits the ground,  y   will be = zero

zero     0 = x^2-8x-33     solve for x  .... throw out any negative values

First, find the eqaution of the dashed line,,,,

   find 2 convenient points     :     -1  -1     and   1  0

    find slope     (-1-0)/(-1-1) = 1/2

       y = 1/2 x  + b    sustituting in one of the points will llow yo to calculate 'b'.... or you can take the value of y where x = 0

             b = -1/2              LIne equation   y = 1/2x - 1/2 

                   the yellow shaded area is everything ABOVE this line but NOT including the line (because it is dashed)

                               y > 1/2x - 1/2

? is the slope ,m     do you know how to find the slope of the line between two given points?

From second equation    x = 3 + y    sub into first equation

(y+3)^2 + y^2 = 34

y^2 + 6y+9 + y^2 - 34 =0

2y^2 + 6y - 25 = 0             now use quadratic formula to find the y values    

                                    use these values in the original equations to find the corresponding 'x' values

this line is in form   y = mx + b       m = slope = 1/2     parallel slope is the same, 1/2

y = 1/2 x + b   sub in the given point to calculate  b

5 = 1/2(4) + b     means b = 3

y = 1/2x + 3
