What two numbers ADDED together = 12 and MULTIPLIED together = 27 ( 9 and 3)
(x+9)(x+3) = x^2 +12x + 27
Assuming we are working with a RIGHT triangle:
cos a = 3 sin a
1/3 = tan a = sin /cos
arctan(1/3) = 18.43 degrees
18.43 + 90 + x = 180 x = 71.57 degrees and the 90 degree angle
sin a = 3 cos a
sin/cos = 3
arctan(3) = 71.57 degrees and 18.43 degrees and 90 degrees (as before)
spotted cats = x
6 + x = 3 (26 -x)
6 + x = 78-3x
-72=-4x
x=18 = spotted cats spotted cats = 6 spotted cats +spotted fish = 18 + 6 = 24 critters with spots.
We need to know the force applied......
then f = ma
then a t = final velocity
I think your book just got a bit ahead of itself in giving you this question before discussing the cosine rule.....
cos rule give answer as 2.357 units
Where did you get the 1.8 from.....just a 'guestimate' ? And if you use this value for the height, then
1.8/2 would equal sin 62 .....but you MULTIPLIED the sin by sin 62......what does that do?
#BTUs / volume =
Volume = volume of a cylinder = pi r^2 h = pi (6^2)(39)
14 pers x 710 BTU/pers / pi (6^2)(39) ft^3 = 2.25 BTU/ft^3
I would assume ac is the hypotenuse , then ab would be one of the legs (both legs are the same length)
Pythagorean theorem says leg1^2 + leg2^2 = hyp^2
since leg1 = leg2 this becomes
2 (leg1)^2 = 30^2
(leg1)^2 = 450
leg1=ab = sqrt450=21.21 units
Why can't you use the cosine rule? This question and diagram are a perfect set-up to use this rule......
