From here, we can plug in numbers:

=> 0.5x = 0.42x + 7.2

=> 0.08x = 7.2

=> x = 90

Therefore, we must add 90 gallons.

Actually, no. Many think it is 2, but they are in fact wrong, or at least short sighted. Imagine a=b.

a = b

a^2=ab

a^2-b^2=ab-b^2

(a+b)(a-b)=b(a-b)

a+b=b

2b=b

2=1

Therefore 1+1=3 or 4.
