you were probably doing PEMDAS wrong
for your question 14*6/2+8*12, you would first multiply 14*6 and get 84, then divide 84 by 2 to get 42, then you multiply 8 and 12 and get 96, and finally add 42 and 96 to get 138.
subtract the -9 from both sides and then divide by 8 on bothe sides to get 23 = x
