You could get 6. (36/6 = 6) 

We do not count the remaing 1/12th of a board as it is not a whole board. Another example of this is if pencils are $2 each and you have $3 you cannot purchase 1.5 pencils. 

8 : 32 ---> 1 : 4

Since this is a ratio, we can simplify it by finding the highest common factor of 8 and 32 (8) and then dividing by that. If you have 8 buckets of blue paint and 32 buckets of red paint, it is the same as saying that for every 1 bucket of blue paint you have 4 buckets of red paint (8*4 = 32).

-x + 3 = -1

-x = -4

x = 4

To check this we can go:

2*4 - 3*(4-1) = -1
