So all you are doing is the area of circle Z minus the area of circle X.

The area of a circle is pi times the radius squared.

Circle Z has a radius of 7.

Circle X has a radius of 4.

So

the area of circle Z = (pi)(7²) = 49pi , and

the area of circle X = (pi)(4²) = 16pi .

49pi - 16pi = 33pi

Well if you have a cube thats 5 by 5 by 5, the volume is 125 cubic units. The cube root of 125 will tell you the length of a side, not the surface area or area of one face.

So no, the cubic root of volume does not give you area. On top of that, for any shape other than a cube, the area of each face is different. So you have to know what the shape is to know how to find the surface area or the area of one face.

Think about this. If she bought only one hammer for 3 cents, how much did that cost?

Obviously it cost 3 cents.

Now if she bought two hammers, how much would that cost?

The first was 3 cents. The second was 3 cents. So it cost her 3+3 = 6 cents total.

3 + 3 is the same thing as saying 2 x 3.

So if you can figure it out for two hammers, you can figure it out for ten hammers or a hundred hammers. :)
