Factors of -7 = ( 7 , -1 ) , ( -7 , 1 )

but since the sum is positive,

the positive has to be greater. 

So the 7 has to be larger than the 1 to make it positive.

So it is the first pair, ( 7 , -1 ) is correct.

Answer: 7 , -1

Really off topic- wish there was a comment thing- for me, on my screen, the 2 length is greater than the 7 length.

um no. I was just showing my last steps, which was 15+3=18. Because 15 and 3 were a pair...

Ok, rethinking this: for A)

try plugging number to find a pattern...

For b) you should be able to solve it with a simple knowledge of Sigma notation, try going to khan academy for review.

(maybe somebody else on the forum will help with a fully detailed answer.)

Wow.. That was better Phrased... Not my Question, But Thank You!

The arithmetic mean of 10 consecutive even integers is 3. What is the least of these 10 even integers? If the mean is 3, then five of the numbers must be less than 3 and five greater than 3. The numbers less than 3 must be −6, −4, −2, 0, 2 and those greater than 3 must be 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12. The least of these is −6 .
