to simplify is to make terms look simpler. For example, we could have 5x-2+27x-42-3x+10=24
Simplifying would give 29x-34=24
simplifying does not have to mean solve.

Do you mean a repeating symbol like this? It means the numbers repeat. For example:
\(\frac{1}{7}=0.\overline{142857}=0.142857142857142857142857...\)

It is not the same. Factoring helps us get the answer faster.
For example x^2+6x+7=0
Solving for x would be difficult using this form. But factoring we can get (x+6)(x+1)=0. We can easily solve for x which is -6,-1.
