We  can solve  these  two equations....

a(2) + 3  =  2 + 5             2(-2)  - b  =  -2 + 5

2a  + 3  =  7                        -4 - b  =  3

2a =  7 - 3                            -4 - 3  =  b

2a  =  4                                    b  = -7

a  = 2

a +  b  =  2 - 7  =  - 5

sin Z  =   sqrt ( 29^2  - 7^2) / 29  =   6sqrt ( 22) / 29

12 [ ( x - 4)^2  +  17 ]  =                     (distribute  the 12  across the terms in the brackets )

12 (x - 4)^2  +  204

y =  120  + 15x

Outputs: -15, -11, -9, -2, -1, 5, 5, 13

We  have  the points

(-13, -15)   ( 20, -11)   ( 0, -9)  ( -4, -2)  ( 11, - 1)  (-1, 5)  ( 17, 5)  ( x, 13)

We cannot  have  the  same  x  going to two different y's

So

-5   is OK

-1  is not   ...we  would have  ( -1,5)  and (-1. 13)

0  is not......we would have  ( 0, - 9)  and (0, 13)

2 is OK

11 is not....we would have  ( 11,  -1)  and (11, 13)

17 is not....we would  have  (17,5)  and (17,13)

No prob....

Consider

( x^2  - 16) / (  x - 4)    =

[ ( x + 4) ( x - 4) ]  / ( x - 4)  =

x + 4

For  a function, we cannot  two  diferent  y  values associated with the same x  value

So..

A  is  OK

B is not

C is OK

So  A  and C

Note  that  the second equation can be arranged as

y =  6x  -  42

Sub this into  the first equation for  y

2x - 9 ( 6x - 42)  =  14       simplify

2x  - 54x  + 378  =  14

-52x  =  14  - 378

-52x  = -364

x  = -364 / -52    =   7

And   y   =  6(7) - 42  =  0

So....xy  =  7*0  =  0
