Guest... come on. I'm sure we all have our moments of forgetting things or not as advanced in math as other people. I'm in Calculus (in high school, so I know what I'm saying here from experience) and even I forget the silliest things. Just the other day I forgot that 1 is not a prime number. 

Okay so for these kind of probabilty problems you need to find out how many options are there in total.

So there are three of white, four of tan, two of blue, three of green, and four of pink.

Your total amount of options is 14.

Now you want BLUE or PINK.

Out of all of the options only six are the colors you want, so that's six out of fourteen or 6/14.

Now you just have to simplify and voilá!

Samantha has a 3/7 chance to get any shades of pink or blue.

6 times 1/2 is the same as saying 6 divided by 2.

Meaning the quotient/product (however you go about this) would be 3.

I'm going on the assumption that "x2" means \({x}^{2}\)

We start with:

28=x^2-3x

If you want to find solutions then you need to have the equation equal zero:

0=x^2-3x-28

If you factor then you get:

0=(x+4)(x-7)

Solve each binomial as if it were a separate problem

x+4=0   and   x-7=0

Meaning... 

x=-4 and 7

Think of multiplying fractions by whole numbers as multiplying fractions by fractions (in a way).

You start with : \(\frac{4}{6}*\frac{5}{1}\)

Multiply it out and get : \(\frac{20}{6}\)

Simplify : \(\frac{10}{3}\)
