18-1.50 = $16.50      left AFTER the first mile

16.50 divided by 0.9 = 18.33 = 18 full miles

Total full miles = 1+18 = 19

I think you meaning is pretty clear.    

This is how it is usually written

sqrt(75) + 11sqrt(3) - sqrt(300)

\(\sqrt{75} + 11\sqrt{3} - \sqrt{300}\\ =\sqrt{25*3} + 11\sqrt{3} - \sqrt{100*3}\\ =5\sqrt{3} + 11\sqrt{3} - 10 \sqrt{3}\\ =(5+11-10)\sqrt{3} \\ =6\sqrt{3} \\\)

I expect that you actually mean  (t^2-u^2) / (t+u)         

\(\frac{(t^2-u^2) }{ (t+u) }\\ =\frac{(t-u)(t+u) }{ (t+u) }\\ =\frac{(t-u)}{ 1 }\\ =t-u\)

Your solution starte4d off good but then you got into a bit of a mess.  

x + 4 > -9?

Subtract 4 from both sides - just like you said :))

x + 4-4 > -9-4

x          >   -13
