what are the law of cosines? and how do we solve it?

I know the law of cosines as the cosine rule.

We use the cosine rule to find an angle in a triangle if we have three sides.
or
We can use it to find the side or a triangle if we have the other 2 sides and the opposite angle.

I just want to explain a little (to tgrades) how you got your answer.

-2(-5r-3) = -2*-5r -2*-3

= 10r + 6

Sometimes one extra line can really help people to 'join the dots' (understand)

Do you mean x ³ ?

I did this by typing x then I hit the 'sup' button that is located above the smilies. The curser is placed ther you need to enter 3. Then move the curser to the end and keep going.
Or
If you already have printed x3 you can just highlight the 3 and then hit the 'sup' button. The first way is marginally simpler I think but both work fine.

If you were somewhere else on the net where this was not available, the ^ means to the power of
so x ³ = x^3

It is good to know these things.

f(x) = -27x ³
f(-9) = -27*(-9) ³
=-27 * -729
=19683

there is an invisible times sign between the number and the letter.
Also when you are doing it on the computer, it is best to use * for a times sign. This is so that it doesn't not get muddled with the algebaic x.

so your question is

4p * 6q
=4*p*6*q
=4*6*p*q
=24*p*q
=24pq

I'm sorry I didn't understand. It didn't occur to me that snd meant 2nd. I suppose it should have.

I already answered this one. -1+2+3 = 4

These questions are open to misinterpretation you should use brackets to make your meaning clear.

that is

-(1^2)+2(1)+3 = 4 This is the most acceptable interpretation is brackets are not used.

(-1)^2+2(1)+3 = 6
