Note, if y = x + 3, just substitute this to the second equarion........so we have
3x + 4(x + 3) = 7 simplify
3x + 4x + 12 = 7
7x + 12 = 7 subtract 12 from both sides
7x = -5 divide by 7 on both sides
x = -5/7
If the average of 5 numbers is 8, their sum must be 40.
And if the average of two of them is -6, their sum must be -12.
So, the sum of the other three numbers is 40 - (-12) = 40 + 12 = 52.

I used to get that a lot when I was tutoring this topic....but try it for yourself......a "mirror image" rotated 90 degrees clockwise will produce the inverse......(if there is an inverse)

HAHAHA!!!!....I don't give a hoot about "points"......I just interpreted the situation a little differently from geno....however, since most of the responses seem to be "clustered" around his answer, I think he was on the correct trail........maybe I need to improve my reading comprehension....LOL!!!
