minus 3 minus open bracket an unknown number divided by an unknown number closed bracket equals 5

Add 3 to both sides

-(_/_) = 8

mult both sides by -1

( _/_) = -8

Does that make it easier? There are an infinite number of solutions. You can probably find 2 all by yourself.

Remember, a neg/pos = neg and pos/neg=neg SO exactly one of the numbers will have to be negative.
