  • (c) Write the equation of the line in slope-intercept form. Show your work.

 

2. Line A is represented by the equation, y=1/4x + 5.

  • (a) Write in slope-intercept form the equation of a line that is parallel to Line A and passes through the point, (8, -2). Show your work.
  • (b)Write in slope-intercept form the equation of a line that is perpendicular to Line A and passes through the point, (4, 1). Show your work.

a  Slope=y2-y1 divided by x2-x1

b  Point-slope is the general form y-y₁=m(x-x₁) for linear equations. It emphasizes the slope of the line and a point on the line (that is not the y-intercept).

c  This can be done by calculating the slope between two known points of the line using the slope formula. Find the y-intercept. This can be done by substituting the slope and the coordinates of a point (x, y) on the line in the slope-intercept formula and then solve for b.
