1+x(x-2)/(x-3)(x-2)>0

why cant i just reduce the (x-2) and write 1+x/x-3>0  ?

why do i have to open the brackets?

You can also write it like this,In expanded for

(x^3-4 x^2+5 x-3)/(x-3)>0

In expanded form, like this:

x^3/(x-3)-(4 x^2)/(x-3)+(4 x)/(x-3)+1>0, therefore,

x>3

You can cancel out the two (x - 2) factors, giving you  1 + x/(x - 3) > 0  and then solve from there.

However, because 2 makes the denominator in the fraction that you cancelled out equal to zero, you cannot have 2 as an answer.
