1. What do similar triangles mean? Similar Triangles are triangles that have proportionate angles and sides.

In triangle 1, we have the height as 12cm, and the base as 3.5 cm.

In triangle 2, we have the height as x cm and the base as 14 cm.

So, we need to find an equal proportion between 3.5 cm and 14cm.

Tell me what you think, our next move should be.

Hi Dot.Box :)

Tertre has given you a very good hint. Thanks Tertre :))

As Tertre said, in similar figures the legths of corresponding sides must be in the same ratio.

So

\(\frac{JK}{MN}=\frac{LJ}{OM}\\ \frac{14}{3.5}=\frac{x}{12}\\\)

Now multiply BOTH sides by 12 to get the value of x.

What answer do you get?

--------

With the second one the two simialar trianges are   LOP and LMP

so

\(\frac{LO}{LM}=\frac{LP}{LN}\)

now do the substitution and solve for x

If you need more help you can ask on THIS thread but make you you say what you have done.

You can certainly do some of it on your own :)
