Nice answer, rosala !!!

I like to think of the Associative Property this way:

Sometimes, the first two "friends" associate together, so we have

(a + b) + c

And other times, the last two "friends" associate together, so we have

a + ( b + c)    !!!!

What is the symmetric property? I never heard of that property.

This is an example of Associative Property of Addition ( the second option) because in this property the rule is

a+(b+c)=(a+b)+c

So this

2 + (x + y) = (2 + x) + y

is matching to the property!Thats is why the answer is the second option!

Yes. I agree with rosala because the associative property basically repeats the same thing, but it kind of switches around.
