25% are Malay and 75%  are the rest...of these  (9/15)75%  =  45% are Tamil

 

Let T be the total...and we know that

 

.45T  = .25T + 480     subtract  .25T from both sides

 

.20T  = 480      divide both sides by .20

 

T = 480/.20   =   2400 total books

 

Check

 

2400(.45 - .25)  =  2400(.20)  = 480
