3. A spinner has 3 congruent sectors colored red, blue, and yellow. The pointer is spun and a 4-sided die labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4 is rolled.
a) Find the probability of each event:
i) Landing on red and rolling a 4.
ii) Landing on blue and rolling an even number.
iii) Not landing on yellow and rolling an odd number.
b) Verify your answers to part a using a tree diagram
PLEASE I NEED HELP I'M SO BAD AT THIS UNIT !!!!
Since the spinner is evenly divided into red, blue, and yellow segments the probability of landing on any one of these is 1/3.
Since the die has four sides, the probability of landing on any of its sides is 1/4.
Landing on red (1/3) and rolling a 4 (1/4): found by multiplying (1/3) x (1/4)
Landing on blue (1/3) and rolling an even number(2/4) [because there are 2 even numbers and the probability of each one is 1/4): found by multipying (1/3) x (2/4)
Not landing on yellow (2/3) [because there are two ways -- red and blue -- of not landing on yellow] and rolling an odd number (2/4) [because there are 2 odd numbers]; found by multiplying (2/3) x (2/4)
